Back-To-Back Canada Cups!

Ontario once again welcomed back-to-back Canada Cup races. Beginning with Horseshoe Resort, the Superfly Racing team gave us a great day of racing up, down and across the slope side single track, which was followed by some fast racing by Pulse Racing on the PanAm course at Hardwood Ski and Bike. With a week between the events, both races were blessed with the perfect amount of rain ahead of race days which made for perfect trail conditions.

Both races in the national series welcomed teams from all over the country, including several Team USA riders. Maverix had an amazing two weekends of racing, as Team Progressive riders walked away with a few visits to the podium and several Top Ten finishes.

Canada Cup #3: Horseshoe

A few of the Maverix riders began their weekend on Saturday by supporting the Trillium Trailblazers Youth Race, an initiative by Mountain Bike Ontario to promote the sport to youth. The program had a great turnout!

On race day, Mike (Solic) kicked things off in his U17 category and raced wheel-to-wheel finishing just 4 seconds behind first place. Jay, Kyle and Mike (Davidson) followed later in their Master Expert categories, with Jay taking a top ten finish and Kyle close behind in thirteenth. Mike had an amazing forth place finish after missing his start time by almost three minutes; superb racing and focus on his part! Gunnar finished strong in the Junior Expert field to take second place, followed by Malcolm in tenth and Noah in thirteenth. Kelsey and Liam followed the same finish pattern in the Elite category as Kelsey rocked a top ten finished and Liam with an impressive thirteenth place finish amongst the best senior elite riders in the country.

Canada Cup #4: Hardwood

The Hardwood PanAm course never disappoints! Despite a few spills, mechanicals and DNFs, the team had a successful day of racing. Mike battled for the number three spot on the U17 Sport podium, followed by Greg recovering from mechanical hiccups on the course to finish top ten in his 30-39 field. Jay also welcomed a spill and small mechanical during his race but held on and squeezed into the top ten, and Davidson raced consistently to claim third spot on the podium in his Expert category. Both Malcolm and Noah had top ten finishes in the Junior Expert field, with Gunnar climbing back to finish eleventh following a mechanical that almost ended his race. The Elite Men’s race saw some great battles and strong comebacks in the leader group which made for exciting racing. Liam had another impressive finish amongst the big boys, finishing eighth, with Kelsey crossing the finish shortly after to take number twelve!

Great racing by all and big thanks to Superfly and Pulse Racing for putting on two great races…and for keeping the rain away on race days!

p.s. huge thanks to honorary team member / photographer Marta Kocemba for coming out once again to capture our race faces! 🙂
